東京大学法学部卒業。京都大学アジアアフリカ地域研究研究科修了、博士号を取得。政策研究大学院大学大学助手、日本貿易振興機構アジア経済研究所研究員、コーネル大学客員研究員、チュラロンコン大学客員研究員、米国ウィルソンセンタージャパンフェローを経て現職。ジョージメーソン大学Movement Engagedリサーチハブ研究員兼任。専門は、インドネシア政治、タイ政治、東南アジアの華僑華人、東アジアの国際関係。主な著書に『華人と国家』（書籍工房早山）。

1937年生まれ。16歳で父が創業した商店で働き始める。18歳で渡日し、日本に6年駐在。タイに帰国後、日本企業との提携や合弁事業を拡大し、サハをタイを代表する巨大企業グループに成長させた。1991年にサハ・グループ会長に就任。1999年に日本の内閣総理大臣貿易表彰、2002年に勲三等瑞宝章、2009年に早稲田大学名誉博士号を受けた。タイ商工会議所、タイ工業連盟の名誉顧問も務めている。

He is the Executive Deputy Chairman of YKGI Holdings Bhd, and is currently serving as the President of Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM), Vice President of National Chamber of Commerce & Industry of Malaysia, Board of Director of Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), Board Member of Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) and executives of several other public and private organizations in Malaysia.

Gerard B. Sanvictores is the Chairman of the Philippines-Japan Economic Cooperation Committee (PHILJEC).
Mr. Sanvictores was awarded in 2015 a Commendation from the Foreign Minister of Japan for his role in promoting mutual understanding between the Philippines and Japan.
He is an Independent Director of the Capital Markets Integrity Corporation, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Philippine Stock Exchange, and CEO of QRD Investors Inc., and FSS Realty Corporations. He was a former partner of SGV&Co/EY until his retirement in 2014. He was a former member of the Board of Accountancy.
