The ASEAN region has long been at the center of international business for Japanese companies. However, the environment surrounding ASEAN region has undergone significant changes in this 50 years. The diversification of needs and intensification of competition accompanying economic development are further accelerating and their interest in various social challenges such as sustainability has increased.
As ASEAN region changes, its relationship with Japan is also changing dramatically. Moreover, it is important to catch up with the direction and speed of change in ASEAN, while at the same time recognizing the advantages of Japan, so that ASEAN and Japan can co-create a new relationship.
With this in mind, the ASEAN-Japan Economic Co-Creation Vision Formulation Project was launched in June 2022. After one-year discussion with Business Communities, we finalized the ASEAN-Japan Economic Co-Creation Vision this summer. In this Vision, we set the direction for ASEAN-Japan relationship to “realize a secure, prosperous and free economy and society with fair and mutually beneficial economic cocreation, based on the trust established over the past 50 years.”
In order to realize this vision, it is important to implement specific projects jointly by the ASEAN-Japan public and private sectors and by building up successful examples one by one.
On the sidelines of ASEAN-Japan Commemorative Summit, this forum will give us concrete examples of ASEAN-Japan co-creation projects and future business possibilities. This forum will also provide a wide range of expert discussions to build momentum for ASEAN-Japan business co-creation.
